Stuart Haden was born in 1942 in Aberdeen Scotland. He studied at the Hammersmith College of Art and Building from 1961 to 1964. From 1973 to 1977 he taught architectural design at the Mackintosh School, Glasgow School of Art, and then at the University of Texas in Austin from 1977 to 1979. While in Austin, Stuart began to concentrate on photography. Four of his colour photographs received an Honourable Mention in the 12th National Photographic Competition in 1979. Haden has had nine group shows and eleven solo exhibitions including solo exhibitions at The Third Eye, Glasgow in 1981 and The Photographer's Gallery, London in 1983.
