Resident Artist- Paul McGowan

Paul Mcgowan now has his studio on the SpectrumArt Art Ark. The Art Ark provides an exiting opportunity to undertake art and communication projects in a picturesque setting. The Art Ark, a converted barge, is moored alongside a quay on the Penryn estuary.

Spectrum has made the barge available to visiting artists, partly as a source of insipration for them, and also as a place where our service users can come for some one-to-one interaction with people who understand the communicative power of art better than most.

Spectrum Art Ark artists Paul McGowan, Mark Lascelles Thornton and Chris Stocker talk about their experiences on the Art Ark

Paul McGowan Says:
"I integrated two of the artists who worked on “The divinity of monsters” from my Blockhead project that opens at the Eden project summer 2010 onto the Arc Studio. Chris stocker who was responsible for bolting the artworks together. Chris used his skills as a cover illustrator to design the catalogue cover and various posters used to advertise the auction on the 31st October. Mark Lascelles Thornton who drew the main drawing in the 3rd panel of “Divinity” came on board to help with the private classes for the service users. Also Mark and I have been working on a collaborative painting to donate to the auction as well as our individual works. Mark and I both prefer to work through the night. The only sound that you hear late is the local owl then nothing but undisturbed perfect silence. The Arc studio is a unique environment to work from. You have brilliant light all day and a perfect stillness at night."
